Harav Yeruchem Olshin, Rosh Yeshiva of Bais Medrash Gavoha of Lakewood addressing
the father and son melava malka |
Sh’or Yoshuv’s warm, close-knit community forms a cornerstone of the Yeshiva’s uniqueness.
The 500 families comprising the Kehilla, made up of over 3,000 men, women and children,
live in proximity to the Yeshiva in Far Rockaway and the Five Towns. Every Shabbos
and Yom Tov, these families graciously open their doors and warmly welcome students
and other guests into their homes. The atmosphere in the Bais Medrash on a Shabbos
or Yom Tov is amazing.

Maariv Motzei Yom Kippur at Shor Yoshuv |
On Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur the sound of over 2,000 voices
raised in heartfelt prayer is truly uplifting. The kehilla is an integral part of
the yeshiva, by becoming extended family and personally involving themselves in
the lives of the students, friendships and relationships are forged that span a
lifetime.
